The rose path in Freudenstadt

Let yourself enchant by the diversity and beauty of the roses

Kienberg (800 m asl) - domestic hill and recreational area of Freudenstadt, is a refuge for locals and visitors, hikers and for those seeking relaxation.

Besides the "Skulptura" Sculptures and nature parc Kienberg you can visit Germany's highest public rose path. The path leads on approx. 2 kilometers past 1000 shrub roses. These wild- and historic shrub roses were planted in 1985 by Dr. Wolfgang Berger.

With the "Rosa Sancta" another rose is added to the path.

Rosa Sancta is a wild rose from North Africa. It grows in the highlands of Ethiopia, also called the "Roof of Africa", up to an altitude of 3.800 m. Preferably they can be found in the vicinity of early Christian churches of Ethiopia, that is why the rose is called "Rosa Sancta", sacred rose.

The bright rosy filled flowers of the Rose d'Isfahan with their intense fragrance tell about the noble origin of this rose. It belongs to the Damaszen roses; already in times of the ancient Persian civilization it was cultivated in gardens and used for rose oil extraction. With its pleasant fragrance it is still the basis of a valuable perfume.

The Vosges-rose is characterised by its remarkably strong rose colour. The flowers become white in the centre. Twigs and leaves have a bluish-green iridescent color. Flowering time June-July. From the end of August, the "Vosges-rose" produces bottle-like, up to 3 cm long dark-red rose hips, which have a particlularly high vitamin C content.

Trigintipetala ("Rose of Kazanlak") - this fragrant rose, which has been grown in a rose-growing-area near the Bulgarian town Kazanlak since the 16. century, has up to 200 cm long flexible shoots which form an overhanging bush. Medium sized pale rose double flowers in bushes with slightly dishevelled middle. Lovely sweet scent. Supported by the Wellnesshotel Palmenwald Schwarzwaldhof Freudenstadt.
